Additional Information

Full Description

With MindLabs Habitats & Adaptation unit, students step into the role of designers and scientists as they explore how organisms meet their needs in diverse environments. Using physical design materials paired with augmented reality simulations, learners adapt organisms, place them into different habitats, and observe how traits like body structure, camouflage, and behavior affect survival.

Rather than memorizing facts, students test ideas, make design choices, and iterate based on what they see. They might redesign an animal to better survive in a desert, adjust features to avoid predators, or experiment with how changes in environment impact success. Each challenge encourages curiosity, creative problem-solving, and evidence-based thinking.

The experience is intentionally open-ended, allowing educators to adapt it for classrooms, after-school programs, museums, or camps. MindLabs’ integrated digital notebook captures student thinking, design decisions, and reflections in real time, giving educators meaningful insight into how learners reason about systems, cause and effect, and adaptation over time.

Habitats & Adaptation supports NGSS-aligned learning while keeping setup simple and engagement high. It’s a joyful way for students to explore life science concepts while practicing the kind of thinking real scientists and engineers use every day.

Delta

Meet Delta, a fearless biologist with an unstoppable curiosity for how plants and animals survive and thrive in their environments. From rainforests to deserts, she studies the delicate balance of ecosystems, and what happens when that balance is broken.

But not everyone shares her respect for nature. Dr. Stonebreaker is determined to clear forests, drain wetlands, and reshape the world for his own gain. Delta knows that every action has consequences, and she’s using science to prove it.

In this Habitats and Adaptations unit, students join Delta’s mission to investigate how organisms meet their needs in different environments, and how changes to those environments affect survival. Through hands-on experiments, AR exploration, and evidence-based inquiry, students think and act like scientists as they uncover how living things adapt and depend on one another.

Each lesson builds observation, analysis, and critical-thinking skills while connecting science to real-world challenges. Teachers love how Delta’s story helps students see themselves as problem solvers, capable of using knowledge to protect the world around them.
