Additional Information

Full Description

In Light & Sound, students join Echo, a curious and creative guide who helps them design a fully interactive stage set. Learners build a stage using lights, speakers, spotlights, panels, and controllers, then bring it to life through hands-on experimentation and augmented reality.

With Echo prompting each challenge, students test how light reflects, spreads, and creates mood, and how sound travels, vibrates, and fills a space. They might adjust spotlight angles, reposition speakers, swap materials, or tweak controls to improve clarity, reduce reflections, or create a dramatic effect. Each design choice leads to immediate visual and auditory feedback, encouraging students to test, revise, and try again.

The experience feels more like creative play than a traditional lesson, but the learning runs deep. Students develop a strong understanding of waves, energy, and systems thinking while practicing collaboration and problem-solving. MindLabs’ integrated digital notebook captures student designs, decisions, and reflections in real time, giving educators a clear view of student thinking.

Light & Sound is flexible enough for classrooms, after-school programs, museums, and camps, and supports NGSS-aligned physical science learning with minimal setup and maximum engagement.

Echo

Operation: Limelight

The city wasn’t always silent. Once, light danced across rooftops and music echoed through the streets, until Dr. Stonebreaker shut it all down, silencing every sound and dimming every light.

But one bot, Echo, refused to fade away. A performer and engineer, Echo used his knowledge of light and sound waves to bring the city back to life, one reflection, vibration, and signal at a time.

In this Light and Sound unit, students join Echo’s story-telling mission to liberate the city. Through stage design they’ll explore color, volume, brightness and tone by learning how waves reflect or transmit through interactive AR challenges and hands-on experiments.

Blending storytelling with discovery, this unit transforms classrooms into laboratories of creativity, where students learn that light and sound aren’t just science topics, but energy to connect and inspire.
